Judith Marie Nelson age 76, of Madelia, MN, died on May 31, 2021, at Mayo Clinic St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Visitation will be on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia, on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The clergy will be Fr. Timothy Hall. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Madelia. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. Judith Marie (Schmitz) Nelson was born on September 5th, 1944 in Worthington, MN, to Lorraine Marie (Nusser) and Carl Nicholas Schmitz. She graduated from Brewster High School in 1962. Judith was married to Charles Nelson on August 22nd, 1964 in Brewster, MN. In 1967, the family moved to Madelia where Judith was employed with House of Print for over 25 years. In October of 2015 Judith relocated to Lakeview Methodist Care Center in Fairmont, MN. Her hobbies were scrap booking, organizing family photos, and one of her greatest joys was watching her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the CCW and was a part of the craft circle at her church. She is survived by her mother, Lorraine Schmitz of Brewster; daughter, Jill (Troy) Madetzke of Blue Earth and son, Drew (Caryn) Nelson of Madelia; sisters, Pat Rossow of Spirit Lake IA, Mary Jo Cook of Sioux Falls, Lori (Pat) Strouth of Sioux Falls; brother, Gary (Jan) Schmitz of Sioux Falls, as well as, 6 grandchildren, Caitlyn (Nathan) Hutzel, Hailey Nelson, Colton Nelson, Grant, Lauren and Ryan Madetzke and 2 great grandchildren, Emmary and Jolie Hutzel; brother-in-law, Mervin Nelson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Nimmerfroh. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Schmitz; husband, Chuck Nelson; sister, Jean Schmitz; brother, Jackie Schmitz, sister-in-law, Mary Nelson and brothers-in-law, Bob Rossow, Ken Nimmerfroh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help find a cure for Inclusion Body Myositis, which Judith was diagnosed with in 2005. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
