Joyce Theresa Schoo

Joyce Theresa Schoo, 87, passed away peacefully at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN on February 17th, 2022 from Pancreatic Cancer. She was born in Iona, MN on Oct 7, 1934 to the late Nicholas and Mary (Weinzetl) Lanners. She was raised on a farm outside of Iona and attended St. Columba School. After graduation from high school, she moved to the Twin Cities to work as a secretary for a few years. Joyce was united in marriage to the love of her life, Philip Schoo, on Nov 16, 1957. They moved to Wanda, MN in 1958 and made that their home to raise their family of 9 children. She was a great homemaker - always ready with coffee and a good meal to eat! After Phil passed away in 1983, Joyce took on many part-time jobs to stay busy through the years. These include caring for a local elderly lady, working in the restaurants at Jackpot Junction and the MN Arboretum, catering, and working in the food stand at the Mesa Flea market in Arizona. Joyce was a proud member of Catholic Council of Women (CCW) and the Ladies Auxiliary of Iona/Fulda. She was often found volunteering as a cook at the Wanda Legion or St. Mathias Church for many different occasions. She was a member of a bowling team for many years in Lamberton, MN. She thoroughly enjoyed going to Mesa, Arizona for the past 30 winters but especially loved it when her kids/grandkids would come visit from the Midwest! If she wasn't cooking or planning the next meal, she enjoyed playing cards, reading, quilting and crocheting. Joyce is survived by her children Guy (Sharon) Schoo of Niles, IL, Nadine (Scott) Schmidt of Alexandria, MN, Jay (Kayla) Schoo of Eden Prairie, MN, Hal (Connie) Schoo of Mesa, AZ, Rhonda (Guy) Schoo of Bloomington, MN, Deanna (Duane) Flategraff of Victoria, MN, Lee (Jackie) Schoo of Prior Lake, MN, and Darla (Kevin) Klementz of Hudson, WI as well as 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, her brother Nick, and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Phil, and daughter Renee precede her in death as does her sister, Bernice, and brother, Richard. A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday March 26th, 2022 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior from 9:00-11:00am.
