Joy Foster Ziegenhagen was born June 4, 1905, in Evan, MN, the daughter of Peter and Jane (Foster) Carstensen. She attended country school near Evan and graduated from Central High School in St. Paul in 1924. Joy then attended Normal School training and taught for three years in a 1-room schoolhouse near Evan. She was united in marriage to Alfred Ziegenhagen of Morgan on February 8, 1929, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan. Following marriage, the couple moved to a farm near Clements where they raised their son, Calvin. Joy enjoyed belonging to the Sundown Mothers Club, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan. She also enjoyed teaching children and loved telling stories to her grandchildren and others. Joy loved gardening and made the best cookies and rolls! Joy Foster Ziegenhagen died Saturday, October 28, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 101 years. Survivors include daughter-in-law- Pearl Ziegenhagen of Clements; grandchildren- Shari and Tucker Loomis of Springfield, Cindy and John Folsom of Apple Valley, Terry Ziegenhagen of Minneapolis, and Timothy Ziegenhagen of Ashland, WI; great-grandchildren- Heather Loomis Ward, Brandon and Christopher Loomis, and Ashley and Tyler Folsom; great-great-grandchild- Carlyn Ward; and sister- Doris Funkhauser of Fallbrook, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Alfred in 1972; son- Calvin; sisters- Myrtle Dahlke, Elaine Johnson and Lois Cooley; and brothers- Allan and Le Roy Carstensen.
