Joseph Aloysious Savage was born July 10, 1927, in Delton Township, Cottonwood County, the son of Joseph Francis and Beulah Ann (Tuttle) Savage. He left the family farm southwest of Comfrey when he was 16 years old to work for the REA in South Dakota and the railroad in Montana. Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific stationed on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Carmichael on March 28, 1964, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City, IA. He flew crop-dusting airplanes for Lowinsky at the Springfield Airport, worked on the iron ore boats in the Great Lakes, and as a steeple jack on power plant chimneys on the east coast. Joe was an iron worker for 26 years around Iowa City, IA and Minneapolis, MN and a member of Iron Worker's Local 89. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mora, MN, the Princeton VFW Post 6843, and the Princeton American Legion Post 216. Joseph A. Savage died Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at his home in Brook Park, MN at the age of 78 years. Survivors include wife- Phyllis of Brook Park; step-mother- Doris Savage of Springfield; children- Ann (Kyle) Welte of Princeton, Joseph Savage of Wisconsin, Michelle Savage of Vadnais Heights, and Edie Savage of Pillager; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and siblings- Gordy (Barb) Savage, Jack (Mert) Savage, Skip (Marvo) Savage, Mike (Mary Ann) Savage, Doug (Esther) Savage, Tom (Colleen) Savage, Patricia (John) Rolloff, Dave (Lesa) Savage, Ginger (Gene) Veerkamp, and Mary Jo (Steele) Propp.
