Joseph Mattison

Joe died on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Hillview Health Care Center in LaCrosse, WI. Joseph H. Mattison was born on June 11, 1912 in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, MN, the son of Nels and Lizzie (Tollefson) Mattison. Joe was confirmed in 1927 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton, MN. He received his education in rural and Lamberton schools. Joe was united in marriage to Effie A. Erickson on September 15, 1934 at the Erik Erickson home. Together they farmed and raised their family in North Hero Township, north of Revere, MN. He also graded roads for North Hero Township for many years. In 1963, they moved to Milwaukee, WI where Joe worked as a groundskeeper at WI Memorial Park and at two different heat treating plants. In 1972, they moved back to Lamberton, MN. Joe worked as a janitor at Lamberton High School for several years as well as helping out several area farmers. Grandpa Joe was a very kind and gentle man with a great love for his family. He had a life long love of music, which was a great pastime for him in his later years. He is survived by his children - Richard (Joyce) Mattison of St. Cloud, MN, Raymond (Janice) of Holmen, WI, Marvin (Sharon) Mattison of LaCrosse, WI, Loretta (Donald) Dobert of Germantown, WI, and LeAnn (Michael) Lagerman of Greenfield, WI; son-in-law Bernard (Mary Lou) Gorres of Maple Grove, MN; 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law Arthur Erickson of Lamberton, MN and Willard Erickson of St. Helens, OR. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Effie in 1988; two daughters, Evelyn and Darlene Gorres; two grandsons, Michael Gorres and Douglas Mattison; his brothers, Noah, Minnerd, Harry, Arthur and Leslie; his sisters, Myrtle Derickson, Anna, Laura Anderson, Ella Johnson, Esther Jeckell, Mary Gustad; and many other brothers and sisters-in-law. Memorials to Highwater Lutheran Church appreciated.
