Joseph William Haas Jr. was born March 9, 1915 in Home Township, Brown County, the son of Joseph W. and Anna (Kastner) Haas. Joe married Ethel Bellig on September 14, 1936 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Joe entered the US Army on October 11, 1943 and served in the European Theater and received an Honorable Discharge on January 28, 1946. The whole family worked in the bakery business except a sister. In partnership with his brother - Henry, Joe and Hank owned and operated the bakery in Sleepy Eye. Other brothers and a sister owned bakeries in Marshall, Worthington and Minneota. Joe was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Aid. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, card playing, dancing and loved gardening and canning with his wife - Ethel. The last few years, Joe has enjoyed visiting friends at Sleepy Eye Care Center and Countryside. His gifts of laughter and friendship will always be remembered. Joseph died on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at the Sleepy Eye Hospital in Sleepy Eye, MN at the age of 91 years. He is survived by loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife - Ethel; brothers - Patrick, Henry, William, and George; and sisters - Veronica Haas, Agnes Lux, and Loretta Lang.
