Joseph Hunter Grant

Joseph Grant, age 88, of Mountain Lake died on Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society - The Village in Mountain Lake. Funeral service will be 11am, Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Mountain Lake Alliance Church with Pastor Jeremy Oakland officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mountain Lake American Legion Post 389 Honor Guard. Visitation will be at the church one hour before services on Friday. Joseph Hunter Grant, son of Alfred Andrews Grant and Francis Hall Grant, was born in Midway, Alabama, on January 18, 1934. He grew up on the farm in Comer, Alabama, with his brothers, Frank and Allison. He graduated from Eufaula High School, Eufaula, Alabama, in 1952. After one year at Auburn University, he enlisted in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Goossen on August 18, 1961, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, where they made their home. They were blessed with 3 sons, Scott, Timothy, and Todd. They were able to attend all three sons weddings: one in St. Paul, one in Montana, and the last one in Sweden. Joe worked at Hiebert Greenhouse and for 28 years with Cottonwood County Highway Department. For more than 40 years, they traveled to Alabama to see family. They also went on a number of trips with United Prairie Bank. Joe served as a church usher for many years and was a member of the American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening with Jeanette and puttering around in the yard. He enjoyed reading about the Civil War and watching westerns. Joe is survived by his wife Jeanette Grant of Mountain Lake, sons; Scott (Jane) Grant of Oakdale, Tim (Debbie) Grant of Lake Crystal, Todd (Bitte) Grant of Mankato, grandchildren; Jocelyn, Sam, Mackenzie (fiance Dylan), and Brianna Grant, Taylor (Aaron) Oie, Tucker and Taite Grant, and Faith Grant. Great-grandchildren; Everett, Avrahm and Sutton Oie, brothers; Frank (Martha) Grant of Comer, AL, Allison Grant of Watkinsville, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
