Jon LeRoy Loewen was born on June 8, 1946, in Brainerd, MN, and on July 26, 1950, he was adopted by Abram J. and Viola (Ostercamp) Loewen and came to live in Mountain Lake, MN. He received his education at the Christian Day School in Mountain Lake, and he graduated from the Mountain Lake High School in 1964. On June 5, 1960, Jon was baptized upon confession of his faith and became a member of the Gospel Mennonite Church (now Lakeview Gospel Church) in Mountain Lake. He continued his education atGrace College of the Bible in Omaha, NE, where he met and married Diane Decker. They made their home in Mountain Lake and later divorced. Jon served his country with the U.S. Army from 1966 through 1967 in Germany as a boiler operator and mechanic. Jon worked for various trucking companies, including Laker Transfer of Mountain Lake. He was currently a feed truck driver and handyman for KBQ of Mountain Lake. On December 28, 2003, Jon was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Wilson at the Lakeview GospelChurch, and they were making their home in Mountain Lake. Jon enjoyed singing, driving his semi and motorcycle, and camping, and he was very proud of his little granddaughter. Jon LeRoy Loewen, age 58, of Mountain Lake, MN, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Windom Area Hospital in Windom. Jon is survived by his wife, Cheryl Loewen of Mountain Lake, MN; 5 children, Kevin Loewen and fiance Tabitha Johansen of Mountain Lake, Kari Loewen and special friend Tom Duncan of Mountain Lake, Darlis and husband Andrew Simpson of Marion, MA, Sharleen and husband Russ Francis of Heston, KS, and Brent Loewen of Mountain Lake; 2 grandchildren, Cody Loewen of Mountain Lake, and Caitlin Simpson of Marion, MA; his former wife, Diane Loewen of Mountain Lake; 3 step children, Wayne and wife Laureen Dick,Carrie Hanson and fiance Jeff Schenk, and Angie Dick, all of Mountain Lake; 12 step grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan, Scott, Adam, Levi, Loren, Nicholas, Brandon, Brook, Alex, Kristopher and Carly; a brother, James Loewen of Hampton, MN; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
