John Wiens

John C. Wiens, the son of Claus C. and Sara (Hooge) Wiens was born on February 17, 1913 in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, MN. He received his education at District #16 Central Country School near his home and at the Mountain Lake Preparation School. On June 24, 1930, John accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and on August 15, 1930 he was baptized at Maiden Lake, near his home and received as a member of the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Delft, MN. On December 3, 1941, John was united in marriage to Anna Klein at the Mennonite Brethren Church (now Community Bible Church) in Mountain Lake. They began their married life on a farm John purchased west of Delft, and in August 1945, they moved to his parents' farm, where they remained until moving in to Mountain Lake in September 1981. On February 22, 1987, John became a member of the Mountain Lake Mennonite Brethren Church. He served on the Mennonite Brethren Mission Fund at the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church, he served with Anna as hosts for the Church Kitchen, and he was a Charter member of the Carson Male Chorus with which he sang for until it disolved some 40 years later. Anna died on May 16, 1999. John will be remembered by many for his friendly greetings and handshakes. His philosphy of life was in agreement with die stille in Lande (Quiet in the Land). John became a resident of the Eventide Nursing Home and in 2003 he moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake where he died on Tuesday,May 29, 2007 at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 12 days. John is survived by his children, Marlys Wiens of Edina, MN, Melvin Wiens and his wife Lorna of Staples, MN, and Norman Wiens and his wife Sharon of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, Royce Wiens and his wife Volatiana of St. Paul, MN,Curt Wiens and his wife Julie and their children Anna, Abram and Isaac of Oakdale, MN, Alana Wiens of Northampton, MA, and Bryan Wiens of Halifax, Nova Scotia; four brothers and sisters, Leonard Wiens and his wife Esther of Butterfield, MN, Agnes Wiens McKenzie of Minneapolis, MN, Tena Wiens of Mankato, MN, and Alma Ewert of The Dells, OR; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Helen Wiens. The family prefers memorials to the Mountain Lake Christian School, Tabor Carson Missions Center, MB Church Missions Investment Fund or MCC - Global Family Project.
