John Watson Ladd was born on April 8, 1963 in Sleepy Eye, MN the son of Watson and Mary (Remus) Ladd. John, lovingly known as "Huntz attended school at Sleepy Eye St. Mary's and later transferred to Sleepy Eye Public High School. He enjoyed being bat boy for his big brothers' baseball teams and subsequently played baseball and football himself. Later in life, he was an umpire for many, many baseball games. He coached for his son and his grandson's baseball teams as well. He worked several different jobs throughout his life settling in at Sleepy Eye Public School as a custodian where he remained for 22 years. Throughout his years at Public School, John advanced his responsibilities to include maintenance and boiler operator. John felt at home at the school. He enjoyed being around the students and all the staff members. He enjoyed working on cars and fixing things. Often, he was asked to help family and friends because they knew they could count on him. You only had to ask once and John was there to help. In his spare time, he loved to hunt with his son, grandson and nephews. Camping was also one of his favorite pastimes. He was the first to arrive at family reunions and the first to leave, saying that "if you are not on time, you might just miss me".
