John Peter Haler

John Peter Haler, Jr., was born March 31, 1931, on the family farm in rural St. James, to parents John and Frances (Ries) Haler. John grew up on the family farm he attended country school District 52 and then St. James Catholic School. John was united in marriage to Lora Mae Schwieger on November 10, 1953, the couple continued to farm until 1981 when they moved into St. James. John worked as a school custodian, owned the Band Box for nine years and worked for a time at the rest area east of town. John was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 75 years, member of the Knights of Columbus, St. James Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. John enjoyed farming, cards, fishing, pool, dancing and socializing with friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed. John Haler passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System- St. James. He is survived by his wife Lora Mae of St. James, children; Paul (Cindy) Haler of St. James, son-in-law Dale Peterson of Eveleth, MN, Elaine (Gary) Blackstad of St. James, Mark (Jil) Haler of Lafayette, MN, Janet Haler (special friend Jay Moses) of Kasota, MN, Denis Haler of Reedsburg, WI, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, brothers Lawrence (Ruth) Haler of St. James, Walter (Greta) Haler of Elmore, MN, , sister-in-law Nadene (Elton) Ahlness of Springfield, many nieces, nephews and very special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters Mary, Laurie Ann, grandson Daniel Haler, sisters Adeline (Orville) Kubly, Caroline (George) Anacker.
