John Evers

John W. Evers was born May 4, 1921. He was raised in Comfrey, MN and attended school there. John was united in marriage to Alice Johnson on April 15, 1941. He served with the U.S. Army from February 1945 until his Honorable Discharge in June of 1946. John returned to Comfrey where he owned and operated a bulk Mobil gas business and also did custom corn shelling. He also owned the Mobil gas station and the Comfrey Car Wash. John was a part-time Auxiliary Police officer. He later was a mail carrier for 13 years before his retirement. John had his own band - Johnny's Trio - where he played the drums. John and Alice were lifetime residents of Comfrey until the tornado of 1998 when they moved to Springfield. He was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and the Albin Johnson American Legion Post #244. John enjoyed playing the drums and singing, but especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. John W. Evers died Monday, October 5, 2009, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center at the age of 88 years. He is survived by wife Alice of Springfield; daughters- Patricia (Doug) Kratz of Ormsby, and Mary Kay (Warren) Holland of New Ulm; grandchildren- Jason Kratz, Todd Kratz, Joshua Becker, Justin (Renee) Becker, Jacob Becker, and Jordell Piotter; 4 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters.
