Joel Cornelius Stoesz

Joel was born in Butterfield, MN to John D. and Marie (Schultz) Stoesz on May 19, 1930. He graduated from Butterfield High School in the class of 1948. He married Verna Schmidt on September 21, 1951. He worked for a general contractor as a construction supervisor for a major part of his working years. But also worked as a cabinet maker, well digger, and maintenance supervisor. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and as a State Park Campground Host. He was the president of a local camping club and on the Mountain Lake Police Commission and other committees for Mountain Lake. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as a teenager and was baptized June 9, 1946 by Reverend Erland Waltner at Bethel Church. He taught a 4th and 5th grade boys Sunday School class for many years and a mid-week Bible study class for junior high boys. Joel is preceded in death by his parents (John D. and Marie Stoesz) who passed away three and a half months apart when he was only 20 years old causing him grow up fast and to fend for himself at a young age. He is also preceded in death by his 7 older siblings (Helen Stoesz, David Stoesz, Evelyn Jannsen, Orlando D. Stoesz, Mathilda McQuilken, Linda Perron, Leander Stoesz), and by his daughter (Barbara Larson). Joel is survived by his wife,Verna Stoesz, children: Roger Stoesz (Deborah), Donavon Stoesz (Bonnie), son-in-law: Tim Larson (Ann). 5 grandchildren: Kristina Schleisman (Joe), Christopher Larson (Laura), Joel Stoesz, Katey Brown (Jon), and Jacob Stoesz and 11 great grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the Gideons International or a charity of your choice.
