Joan J. Miller, age 93 of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota passed away on December 30, 2025, at Sleepy Eye Rehabilitation Center. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and will continue on Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Pastor David Nissen. Interment will be at Brookville Dannebod Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Joan Jeanette Miller, the daughter of Raymond and Florence (Nielsen) Jensen, was born on August 27, 1932, in Springfield, Minnesota. She grew up in rural Brookville Township with her siblings, Tom, Phil, Marcia, Becky, and Steve, and attended Rural School District #21 through 6th grade. She then attended and graduated from Springfield Public High school in 1950. After high school she attended and graduated from Mankato Business College.
She married Glennis "Bud" Miller at Brookville Lutheran Church in Brookville Township on April 17, 1951. They were married for 59 years and were blessed with six children.
Joan was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church participating in Women's Circle and sewing groups making many, many quilts for missions and high school seniors. She was a Cub Scout den mother for several years and delivered meals with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed watching the MN Twins, reading and sewing. She loved traveling with Bud, especially their trips out west to see the mountains and wildlife. Family was most important to her, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings, always making everyone feel welcome and special.
Joan is survived by her children: Peggy (Robert) Julian of Mankato, Mark (Joanne) Miller of Sleepy Eye, Pamela (Dennis Welch) Henstein of St. Louis Park, Michael (Rhonda) Miller of Windom, Douglas (Holly) Miller of Sleepy Eye, and Gail Hillesheim of Chaska; grandchildren: Jason (Krista) Miller, John (Claire) Julian, Alex (Joelle) Julian, Jill (Kent) Kidrowski, Ben (BreAnn) Miller, Jared (Jenny) Miller, Stephanie (DJ) Deming, Paul (Abby) Henstein, Andrew (Emma) Henstein, Jessica (Nate) Kube, Lacey (Marty) Hoffmann, Ryan Miller, Kyle (Mandy) Miller, Nathan (Abby) Miller, Matthew (Megan) Miller, Mariah (Jon) Mickelson, and Nick Hillesheim; great grandchildren: Owen & Emma Kidrowski, Macy, Kara & Luke Miller, Hudson & Eden Miller, Brady, Quentin & Alaina Hoffmann, Evan & Tessa Kube, Jack, Will & Luke Julian, Summer, Shae & Solenne Julian, Cullen & Addilyn Deming, Vera & Kennedy Henstein, Hazel & Lainey Henstein; and siblings, Becky & Steve along with other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud; parents; brothers, Tom and Phil; and sister, Marcia.
