Joan Harder

Joan Kay Harder, age 80, of Bingham Lake died on December 24, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Lake.


Visitation will be on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. Memorial service will be held at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Joan was born February 11, 1944, to William and Beulah (Byam) Bell in Windom, Minnesota. She graduated from Windom High School in 1962 and continued her education at Washington Jr. College and College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. On September 10, 1971, she married James Harder. Together they raised two sons, Troy and Trent on the family farm located seven miles northwest of Mountain Lake.


Joan enjoyed family vacations as well as motorcycle trips with Jim. She also enjoyed reading, gospel music, specifically the Gaithers, Elvis, classic TV shows such as I Love Lucy and the Andy Griffith Show, and loved her many dogs over the years, especially Joey, Abel, Maddie and Lucas. She was an excellent baker, and liked sampling her baked good as well! She also enjoyed coffee time with her many friends. Joan will be remembered for her kindness and selflessness.


Joan is survived by her sons, Troy and Trent; sister, Mary Goertzen; brother-in-law, Gordon Harder; sisters-in-law, Nancy Harder and Diane Harder; and nieces and nephews.


Joan was preceded in death by her parents, William and Beulah; parents-in-law, Sam and Gertrude Harder; husband, Jim in 2023; brother-in-law, Paul Harder, Bruce Henderson, and Rodney Goertzen; and sister-in-law, Marlis Henderson.
