Jerald Wellner

Jerald Gene Wellner was born December 3, 1940 in Springfield, MN to Adolph John and Luverna Mayme (Radtke) Wellner. He graduated from Sanborn High School and was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 16, 1963. Jerry would continue to serve his country until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1993. During his 30 years of service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. He also was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, the Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, and the Overseas Training Ribbon. Jerry was also ordered to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm. He enjoyed working with horses and participated in chuckwagon races and trail-riding. Jerry worked maintenance for the City of Sanborn since 2013, and was especially proud of his 25 years at Dave's Drive-In Liquors, then Clay's Drive-In Liquors. He loved cooking and spending time with the grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him. Jerry is survived by wife Marjorie of Lamberton; children- Danette Knutson of Lamberton, Matt and wife Cindy Wellner of Sleepy Eye, and Wade and wife LeeAnn Wellner of Lamberton; grandchildren- Jada, Beau, Bronte, Tiffany, Monica, Noah, and Tyler; sister Sandy (Ruben) Perez of Albert Lea; brothers- Ron Wellner of Minot, ND, and Roger (Char) Wellner of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
