Jean Schroeder

Jean Marjorie Harms was born at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, Kansas, on February 21, 1924 to parents Alfred and Lorena (Klaassen) Harms. She was baptized at Grace Hill Church in Whitewater, KS. She attended school in Kansas through the ninth grade. Jean worked as a cook in the Axtel Hospital for several years. On July 8, 1951 Jean was united in marriage to Menno D. Schroeder at Whitewater, KS. The couple farmed in Carson Township outside of Mt. Lake until 1975 when they moved into Mt. Lake. In 1996 Menno and Jean were the first residence's to move into Parkwood Apartments in Mountain Lake. Jean was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Mountain Lake since October of 2000. Jean enjoyed embroidery; she made baby blankets for everyone of her grandchildren. She was also a great cook, loved to garden and do canning. Jean loved taking care of her family and enjoyed her grandchildren. She always had a good spirit and despite her medical problems was happy and cheerful. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Menno. She is survived by her children Allen (Janice) Schroeder of Mt. Lake, Donna (Ronald) Neufeld of Mt. Lake, Richard (Theora) Schroeder of Lakewood, CO, Marilyn (Jay) Franz of Windom, brother Merril (Gladys) Harms of Whitewater, KS, sisters Glendeen Schroeder of Mt. Lake, Lorraine (Vern) Giebler of Hayes, KS, 10 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
