On Saturday November 07, 2020, Jason "Jake" Altenburg age 50, of Madelia, MN, flew to heavens gates while surrounded by the love of his family at his home after a courageous 8-month battle with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. A private family service will be held at the American Legion in Madelia. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Madelia, MN. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Jake was born on August 20, 1970 to Robert W. Altenburg, Sr. and Rosemary (DeVlaeminck) Daugette in Mankato, MN. He grew up in Madelia where he participated in various sports and graduated in 1988. In 1993, he welcomed his daughter, Ashleigh Lee Altenburg with his significant other at the time, Necia Sheeler. On May 31, 2003, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jamie (Urban) Joramo, and welcomed two additional children into his life, Taylor and Brett Joramo. Later in 2003, Jake and Jamie welcomed the light of their life, Jedric Jay-Lee Altenburg. In 2013, he gained the title of Bapa (Grandpa) and had been head over heels for his grandchildren ever since. Jake was the ultimate family man. He was active in coaching the boys on and off the football/baseball field and wrestling mat throughout their elementary and high school years. His knowledge of sports pushed Brett and Jed to be the best they could be and no matter what the outcome, he was always their biggest fan. While the girls weren't as active in sports, he never missed a band or choir concert or any other event significant to bratty teenage girls. Jake's hobbies, besides his family, included watching the MN Vikings, MN Twins and MN Wild games. He was an avid drag racing fan. He not only raced his prized VEGA with friends and family across various tracks throughout the midwest, he had attended the national drag races at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) since he was 13 years old, totaling to 37 years! He has always been known as the light and life of a party. His jokes and inappropriate commentary caused everyone to have those rolling belly laughs we are all familiar with. Jake was never afraid to be the center of attention and his photos and outfit choices have proved to be documented evidence. In 2013, he won the "Father of the Year" Contest at La Plaza Fiesta. While he was definitely the "Father of the Year", we all know it was the outfit that secured the prize. Jake is survived by his wife, Jamie Altenburg of Madelia; children: Taylor (John) Tierney of Madelia, Ashleigh (Dylan Wright) Altenburg of Madelia, Brett Joramo of Mankato, Jedric Altenburg of Madelia, and Foreign Exchange Student, Matteo Cuccu of Italy; grandchildren: Hudson Tierney, Peighton Altenburg, Caleigh Altenburg, Sutton Tierney and Harleigh Wright all of Madelia; parents: Robert (Linda) Altenburg, Sr. of Mankato and Rosemary (David) Daugette of Albertville, AL; siblings: Robert (Heidi) Altenburg, Jr. of Blaine, MN, Heidi (Ryan) Rouse of Mankato, Angie (Ashley) Callahan of Canton, GA, Brandee (Ron) Menick of Villa Rica, GA, Patrick (Chasidy) Redig of Homewood, AL, Breanna (Frank) Altenburg of Mankato, James (Lisa) Daugette of Albertville, AL, Tina (Neil) McMillan of Pace, FL; mother-in-Law, Darla Young of Madelia; siblings-in-law: Jarred (Michelle) Urban of Godahl, MN, Autumn (Mike) Morrow of St. James, MN and Ashley (Matt) Trullinger of Madelia; many aunts and uncles, special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and "brother-from-another-mother" & best friend Keith and Sheila Kilmer of Madelia.
