Janice Eileen (Stern) Anderson was born in North Star Township on December 31, 1941, to Emil and Evelyn (Seidel) Stern. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Jan attended country school in North Star township, District 48 and later graduated from Springfield Public High School in 1959. After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis to work at a bank while living with her brother, Mel, and later sharing an apartment with friends. She came back to Springfield and married Alan E. Anderson on August 21, 1965, at St Paul's Lutheran Church. Jan and Alan were blessed with two daughters, Heidi and Heather which they raised as members of St John's Lutheran Church. They farmed southeast of Springfield and fed beef cattle until moving into Springfield in 1997. Alan preceded her in death on June 8, 2010.
Jan loved having her 6 grandchildren at her home and heaped them with love, wisdom and common sense advice. She had a large garden and canned, but loved her flower gardens best. Jan avidly followed current events, politics and the commodity market during her life. She loved the work to upkeep her home, sewed and crafted many things especially for Christmas which was her favorite holiday. Family traditions and family togetherness were very important to her. She hosted a Memorial weekend get together for family for 46 years to visit ancestor gravesites and create new memories.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Heidi (Dan) Feser and Heather (John) Holles; grandchildren - Abbigail Holles, Luke Feser, Alana Feser, Caleb Holles, Annabella Holles, and Alan Holles; sisters, Joann Louis and Donna Knadel; sister-in-law Annette Anderson, and brother-in-law Thomas Anderson (Carol Carlson) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and brothers, Marvin and Melvin Stern; brothers-in-law, Alex Louis, Bill Knadel, Darwin Anderson, Andrew Anderson, Lowell Anderson; sisters-in-law MaryAnn Stern, Norma Anderson, Pearl Anderson and Bonnie Anderson.
Blessed be her memory!
