Janette Rasmussen

Janette Rasmussen, the daughter of Walter and Hilda (Engelbrecht) Durheim was born on November 10, 1924 in rural Watonwan County. She attended county school in LaSalle and graduated from St. James High School in 1943. She worked as a bookkeeper, secretary, retail and also as a seamstress. Janette was united in marriage to Gordon Rasmussen on January 8, 1953 at the Parsonage of Faith Lutheran Church. Janette wore out many sewing machines sewing her own clothes and also for others, she loved flowers and gardening, and was an avid quilter. Janette also enjoyed spending time reading and baking cookies, as well as crafting hardanger and stained glass. She was a member of Ladies Aid for the Faith Lutheran Church assisting with the sewing club, Sunday School, and also the church secretary. Janette was active in the VFW Auxiliary as a member and past president, served on the board of the Lutheran Memorial Home, Madelia Garden Club, and the Madelia Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband Gordon; children Judy (Bill) Kuefner and family, Barbra (Tom) Helling and family, Greg (Lynn) and family, Susan (Kevin) Hanson and family, and Richard and family. Janette was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Lorraine Miller, Lucille Frederickson, Marvin Durheim, and Arnold Durheim; and sister-in-laws Audrey Rasmussen and Edna Thulien.
