James Shellum

September 5, 1932 — March 22, 2012

James Shellum, age 79, of Truman formerly of St. James, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Truman Senior Assisted Living in Truman. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Odin with Rev. Carla Reierson officiating. Burial will be at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Odin. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Jim was born on Sept. 5, 1932 to Milford and Hannah (Larson) Shellum, in St. James, MN. He was Baptized and Confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. James. He went to school in St. James. He was enlisted in the Navy , from 1952 until 1960. The Seabees built air strips in several countries including the Philippines, and Spain. After serving in the Military, Jim worked as a heavy machine operator in several construction companies. His last job was driving truck for Tony Downs Foods, before he retired. He was very involved in the St. James chapter of AA for 37 years. He enjoyed going to local restaurants, drinking coffee , playing cards, and visiting with friends. Jim loved to play golf, and often went down south in the winter to play. His last years were spent in the assisted living at the Truman Senior Living. He is survived by; sister, Ilene Tams, Loveland, Colorado, Sister-in law, Leona Shellum, St. James, Nieces and Nephews, Maureen Cirks, Park Rapids, MN. , Jeff Tams, Loveland, Colorado, Julie Sullivan, Loveland, Colorado, Gregg, (Terri) Tams, Windsor, Colorado, Paul (Valerie) Tams, Johnstown, Colorado. Steve (Debbie) Shellum, Sartell, MN, Dennis Shellum, Mankato, MN, Jeanette (Dan) Sturm, St. James, MN. He was Proceeded in death by his parents Milford and Hannah Shellum and his brother Marland Shellum.
