James D. Schultz passed away at home on September 1, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on September 17, 1933 in Mt. Lake, MN, the son of David I. and Marie (Heide) Schultz. He graduated from Mt. Lake High School in 1951. After graduation he moved to St. Paul where he attended St. Paul Bible College. It was while he was in the Cities that Jim met Marilyn Hovden of St. James, MN and married her in Madelia, MN on October 29, 1955. Only months after their wedding, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman. After completing his basic training in Texas, Jim was shipped to Korea in April of 1957. He served at Camp Casey and along the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea for 1 year and 2 months. Upon his safe return to the U.S. in June of 1958, Jim and Marilyn moved to Richfield, MN. In 1960 they welcomed their daughter Lori in January and son Randall in December. After living in Mankato for a few years, Jim and his family settled in St. James where he began a long career in insurance. During his years in insurance, Jim worked for both Federated and American United Life. He retired from insurance in 1998. During this time, and throughout his retirement, Jim farmed the land that had belonged to both his and Marilyn's parents.Nothing made Jim happier than driving his tractor and puttering around the farm, no matter the season. Jim and Marilyn loved camping in their motor home with their children and friends, and for many years they spent winters in Arizona. Jim loved to drive, so he also drove truck for Conestoga and Fast Distributing during his retirement. During his entire life, Jim was known for his beautiful tenor voice, and was a much-requested soloist throughout the area. Jim and Marilyn celebrated their 50th anniversary together in 2007. However, Marilyn passed away after an extended illness in 2008. On February 6, 2010 Jim was fortunate to marry Elsie and they were blessed with 4 1/2 wonderful years together. During this time, they traveled extensively and enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. It was a great joy for them both to embrace each other's many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a great comfort to Jim's children to see the love and joy that Elsie brought to his life. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn; his parents; and step-daughter Geri Suderman. He is survived by his wife Elsie; daughter Lori (Scott) Golinghorst of Mt. Lake, MN, and son Randall (Kathy) Schultz of Oshkosh, WI; sister Grace (Ancel) Skrabeck of St. James, MN; brother-in-law Robert (Julia) Hovden of Centerville, OH; grandchildren Abbey (David) Himmel of Pearland, TX, Austin Golinghorst of Sartell, MN, Erica Schultz of Oshkosh, WI, Ethan Golinghorst of Mt.
