James Phillip 'Jim' Peterson

James Phillip "Jim" Peterson age 84, of Madelia, Minnesota died on November 7, 2015, at the Crystal Seasons Living Center in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. James Phillip "Jim" Peterson was born on November 24, 1930 in Godahl, MN to Phillip and Mina (Blackstad) Peterson. Jim grew up in rural St. James and graduated in 1949 from St. James High School. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim married Trudell Oren at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, MN on July 18, 1951 before he was deployed. After his honorable discharge from the army, the couple resided in Hanska, MN. They were blessed with three children: Tim, Linda and Carol. Jim owned and operated Peterson-Williams Trucking until 1960, when he started working for Soreide Motors. In 1963, he purchased the business, which brought the family to Madelia. He later sold the business and began farming. Jim farmed until his retirement in 1988. Jim enjoyed many hobbies including, hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards, golf and having coffee with friends in LaSalle. He was a member of the American Legion in Hanska. Jim was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. Jim cared a great deal for his family and time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be a cherished memory. Jim is survived by his wife, Trudell Peterson; children, Tim (Kay) Peterson of Madelia, Linda (Tom) Kunz of Madelia, Carol Peterson (Tom Sullivan) of Mankato; sisters, Avis Petterson of Northfield, Phyllis Madson of Bloomington; sisters-in-law, Janet Peterson of Park Rapids, Audrey Peterson of Eden Prairie; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee and Phillip R. Peterson, brothers-in-law, Larry Petterson, Norm Madson, and infant great-granddaughter, Jual DeVos.
