There will be a parish prayer service at 6pm Friday at the funeral home. James A. Mathiowetz, 78, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Sleepy Eye Medical Center. James A. Mathiowetz was born on March 12, 1931 in Mulligan Township, MN, the son of Louis Helen (Nachreiner) Mathiowetz. He grew up and attended District 46 Country School and later attended and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye in 1949. After graduation he worked on the family farm. James married Dorothy Werner on August 27, 1974 in Sleepy Eye. Dorothy preceded him in death on April 1, 1976. James continued farming until December of 1996 when he moved to Sleepy Eye. He was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs and the Catholic Aid. He enjoyed playing baseball when he was younger, listening to sports on the radio and playing cards at the bakery. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Lucille (Charles) Moldaschel of Sleepy Eye, Alice (Chuck) Wellman of Butterfield, Vince (Patricia) Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye, Margaret (Leonard) Seidl of Sleepy Eye and 18 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy and nephew, Richard Wellman.
