JAMES (JIM) WILLIAM HEMMINGSEN was born on August 30, 1942, to Genevieve (Ramsbucher) and Willard Hemmingsen in Springfield, Minnesota and died in his home in Sanborn surrounded by his family on September 9, 2025, at the age of 83. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Jim spent his early years in Sanborn before his family moved to New Auburn, where he attended grade school in Glencoe. The family later moved to Gaylord where he attended high school.
Jim met the love of his life, Diane (Precht) Hemmingsen while living in Gaylord. They were united in marriage on November 2, 1963, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hector. Of this union they had 2 sons, and 2 daughters. James and Diane celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on November 2, 2024.
After Jim and Diane married they lived in rural Gaylord where Jim worked with his father. Eventually they bought a home in Brownton and worked at 3M in Hutchinson. Jim and Diane lived in several small towns in Southern Minnesota before settling in Sanborn in 1984. Jim worked for Sanborn Manufacturing in Springfield before working for Mountain Power Hydraulics of Jeffers and later Mountain Lake as a Maintenance man and Machinist for many years with his son, Jerry and his late wife, Diane. After retirement Jim could always be found tinkering with something in the garage or in the house reading one of his favorite books. He was also an avid fisherman and would take his family on camping trips to local lakes in Minnesota.
James is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Randy) Pankonin of Sanborn, his son, Jerome (Angie) Hemmingsen of Westbrook, his daughter, Shelly (Troy) Irlbeck of Wanda, and his son, Travis (Danielle) Hemmingsen of Madelia, his brother, Dennis (Kathy) Hemmingsen of Pine, AZ, his sister, Sandy (Tom) Kraemer of Litchfield, his sister, Patty Hemmingsen of Mankato, and his brother-in-law, Jim Brunner of Owatonna. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Hemmingsen, his parents, siblings, LaVonne Brunner, George Hemmingsen and Linda Rathman and several in-laws.
