James Busse

March 7, 1926 — November 5, 2010

James W. Busse was born March 7, 1926, in Charlestown Township, Redwood County the son of William 'Bill' and Fredricka (Heydlauff) Busse. He graduated from Sanborn High School in 1944, then continued to farm with his father until his marriage to Genola Dammann on April 25, 1951 in Lamberton. After James' parents moved to Sanborn, the couple continued to farm and James drove school bus for many years. He began his interest in assessing and became Charlestown Township Assessor in '59 and Sanborn City Assessor on '70. James became certified in '73 after attending Appraisal and Residential School in Minneapolis where he studied Assessment, Law, History and Procedures, and continued his education with Rural Appraisal in Waseca in '81. The couple left the family farm in '80 and moved to Sanborn where James became water and wastewater Systems and Maintenance man for Sanborn while continuing his assessing. He was a member of the Sanborn UMC, Masonic Lodge 246, MN Wastewater Association, and American Waterworks Association. He assisted the Sanborn Fire Dept., Civil Defense and Community projects, and was active with the City Cemetery for many years. James loved being around people and conversation. He also enjoyed reading history, car and tractor magazines, feeding the birds year-round, and loved a good meal of roast beef and potatoes. He is survived by wife Genola of Sanborn; son Emerson and wife Melissa of Sanborn; twin sister Jane Busse of Willmar; brother-in-law Alvord J. Dammann of Sanborn; sister-in-law Lois Dammann of Sanborn; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers- Willard and Emery; sisters-in-law- Mary Ruth Busse and Marion Dammann; and brothers-in-law- Marlin, Arlenn and John Dammann.
