Jacob 'Jakie' Feil

December 15, 1912 — July 15, 2013

Jacob was born on December 15, 1912 in Mountain Lake, MN to Gottfried A. and Maria (Tripple) Feil. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jacob was baptized on January 12, 1913 then confirmed on May 5 1929. On May 27, 1934, he married Ethel Lillian Marie Freitag at her parents' home. They were blessed with four children: James, Darlene, and twins: Marilyn and Marjorie. Jakie enjoyed playing ball and other outdoor games with his children. He served in the US Army as a German Interpreter during WWII, working behind enemy lines. His unit was in three campaigns: France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge. Following in his father's footsteps Jakie became a carpenter and, again like his father, he taught his own son the skills needed to be the best builder. With their combined skills they contracted and built the present educational wing at Trinity Lutheran Church. Jakie and Jim formed JandJ Construction and built many local homes and farm buildings in the area. He retired in the late 70's and when Jim became ill in the early 80's, he came out of retirement to help complete new homes Jim had started. Upon retirement Jakie also took up golfing and each summer the family held their annual Feil Golf Tournament. He was also a fan of the Twins and Vikings. Jacob is survived by daughters: Darlene (Ken) Friesen, Sioux Falls, SD, Marilyn (Robert) Muckenhirn, Maple Lake, MN and Marjorie Feil, Windom, MN, daughter-in-law, Arlene Feil, Mountain Lake, MN; sister Lorraine Janzen, Bella Vista, AR, ten grandchildren and many great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Ethel; son, James; siblings: Godfrey Feil, Rosella Wellner, Freda Babb, Luella Wellner, Victor Feil, and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Mortenson.
