Jacob Walter Derksen, the son of Jacob J. and Anna (Steinle) Derksen was born in Watonwan County, near Butterfield, MN on April 18, 1921. He recieved his education at District #53 Country School near his home. On June 1, 1941, Jacob was baptized upon confession of his faith at the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN. From September 1942 through 1945, Jacob served his Country in the United States Army while being stationed in Germany. After returning from Europe Jacob worked for area farmers and drove gravel truck before farming for many years. He was an active member of the Butterfield Thresherman's Association and enjoyed driving his tractor in the parades, and he was also a member of the Donald V. Larson VFW Post 9607 of Butterfield. At family gatherings Jacob could be found with young children on his lap as they were attracted to and loved him. Jacob W. Derksen, 86 ,of Butterfield, MN died on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, MN. Jacob is survived by a sister, Anna Smit of Mountain Lake; three brothers, Frank Derksen of Blaine, MN, David Derksen of New Ulm, MN, and Peter and his wife Patricia Derksen of Sacramento, CA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sarah Derksen; and a brother, William Derksen.
