J. Jesus Hernandez, age 95, of Butterfield, died peacefully with his children by his side on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Visitation will be one hour before services on Saturday. Burial will take place in Mexico. J. Jesus Hernandez was born June 7, 1916 at Michoacau, Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of Catarino and Florentina Andrede Hernandez. Jesus grew up in Agua Caliente Michoacau where he farmed for most of his life. In 1942, he married Juanita and they raised their family together. He was active in his community, served on the Morella, Michoacau commission of Agriculture Reform, was involved with the land development for farmers in that area, instrumental in agriculture reform and laws protecting farmers rights. In 1970, he retired from farming and became leader in the Pork Producers in Guanajuato. Jesus was a community leader and local philanthropist. He made sure that those in need were provided for in his community. He loved his family, grandchildren and all the children of the community. Making many trips to the United States over the years he made his home permanently in Butterfield in April 2006. He is survived by his children: Guadalupe Hernandez of Aurora, CO, Jesus (Marta) Hernandez of St. James, Maria (Jaime) Solorio of Mexico, Flor (Carlos) Limones of Butterfield, Estela (Jose) Herrejon of St. James, Katarino (Guadalupe) Hernandez of St. James, Teresa Hernandez and special friend Eric Teksten of Butterfield, Jose (Eva) Hernandez of St. James, daughter-in-law; Ester Hernandez of Butterfield, 48 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Juanita A. Hernandez, sons; Hermilo , Arturo and Juvenal, a daughter Abigail and infant twins at birth, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
