Ivan Sorensen

Ivan Jerome Sorensen, age 91, formerly of Comfrey died September 8, 2013 at Sleepy Eye Care Center where he resided for three years. He was born in Stately Township, Brown County, MN to Mandrup and Margaret (Anderson) Sorensen. He received his elementary education in the Comfrey School and later attended Rural School in Watonwan County, moving with his family to their Rural Family Farm near Darfur graduating eighth grade. He helped working the land with his family and also was a hired helper for farmers in the area. He met the love of his life Delphine Odegard and married at Albion Church in Rural St. James by Rev. Walter Holtan. They started their own farming operation near Comfrey, working side by side with growing crops and raising livestock and poultry. Horse drawn machinery and no electricity was the method. The love of horses never stopped, as driving horses was stayed with his career in the showing and nurturing of his famous Hackney Show Ponies and crafted carriages in local shows, weddings, parades throughout neighboring states, escorting area dignitaries and a member of Comfrey Saddle Club and the Midwest Driving Club. He loved to work for youth organizations, accepting a 5 year Adult Leader Award in local 4-H Club, Cub-Webelos and Boy Scouts. Many fun times in his Leather and Woodworking Shop, he enjoyed dancing, Old Tyme and Country Sounds of his sons Country Band, visiting with friends and a few jokes with the Care Givers at the Care Center. He will be missed! They were blessed by 67 years of marriage. He is survived by wife, Delphine of Comfrey, sister, Lyla Livingston of Montivedeo, son, Damone (Sherry) of Comfrey, grandson, Alexander, sister-in-law, Elaine Sorensen of Comfrey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Marvin, sister, Lola (Harlen) Felker and parents.
