Irene Evelyn Oldenburg was born on the family farm in rural St. James on April 24, 1925 the daughter of George and Alma (Nelson) Oldenburg. She was baptized May 20th at First Lutheran Church in St. James by Rev. M.K. Hartman, confirmed at Waverly Lutheran Church by Rev. P.B. Stensland. She attended country school in Martin County. On June 2, 1944 she was united in marriage to Orville Miest. Irene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member of the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, volunteering and spending time with her family. She loved to travel and was an avid watcher of the Minnesota Twins. Irene Miest passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. She is survived by her children; Earl (Lynda) Miest of Manhatten, MT, Joyce (Dale) Monroe of St. James, Karen (Chuck) Hansel of Dalton, MN, Linda (James) Gronholz of North Mankato, James (Lisa) Miest of Center, ND, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 5 Step-great-grandchildren, sister Janice Jensen, sisters-in-law; Lois Miest and Donna Miest and many nieces and nephews.
