Hilda Stoesz

June 6, 1926 — January 22, 2007

Hilda was diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2005 and struggled with it until her death. God graciously spared her much pain and suffering when she died peacefully from heart failure with her loving husband by her side on Monday, January 22, 2007, at the age of 80 in the Windom Area Hospital.Hilda Thiessen was born on June 6, 1926, in Mt. Lake to parents David N. and Elisabeth (Ratzlaff ) Thiessen. She attended Country School Dist. #12 and graduated from Mt. Lake Public High School in 1944. She furthered her education at Mt. Lake Bible School and Mankato Teachers College graduating with a teaching certificate. She taught grades 5 thru 8 at Darfur School for one year. On July 7, 1949 Hilda was united in marriage to Harvey Stoesz in Mt. Lake. The couple made their home on the family farm near Mt.Lake where they raised their 5 children. They enjoyed entertaining friends at their home, traveling and spending time with family. Hilda loved to garden, can her produce, bake and do handwork. Hilda treasured being a wife, mother and grandmother.Hilda accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age. She was baptized upon confession of her faith and was received into membership of the EMB Church where she was faithful and active until her death. Hilda was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and ladies sextet and taught AWANA. She was an active member of the Mission Society and Ember Daughters. She enjoyed Midway Homemakers Extension Club, gave tours of the Heritage House and, in recent years, helped at the Elizabeth House and was an RSVPVolunteer at the Good Samaritan Village. Together with Harvey, she extented hospitality by hosting MCC trainees from Paraguay, Poland, Zimbabwae, and Kenya and a foreign exchange student from New Zealand. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, brother John and sister Martha Hooge. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Stoesz of Mt. Lake, children, Jim (Donna) Stoesz of Inver Grove Heights, Becky (Rick) Hagen of Prior Lake, Rachel (Bill) Janzen, Jerome (Marilyn) Stoesz of Mt. Lake, and Andrea (Chris) Sindt of Maplewood, 12 grandchildren, sister-in-law, Dorothy Thiessen of Mt. Lake, brother-in-law, Melvin (Ethel) Hooge of Mt. Lake and many other friends and relatives.Arrangements are with Bjerum Funeral Home in Mt. Lake, MN.
