Hilda Friesen

April 20, 1915 — May 25, 2010

Hilda Friesen was born April 20, 1915, in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, the daughter of Henry B. and Elizabeth (Fast) Wiebe. She attended Sixteenth Central Country School in Bingham Lake. Hilda was active in 4-H and her Guernsey calf took Grand Champion at the Cottonwood County Fair in 1931. She was baptized at the Bergfelder Church near Mountain lake in 1936. Hilda was united in marriage to George R. Friesen on December 10, 1936, at her parents' home in Carson Township. The couple farmed near Mountain Lake for over 56 years before retiring and moving to Mountain Lake in 1992. Hilda was a member of Lakeview Gospel Church and was involved in the Women's Mission Society and the food committee. She participated in organizing the Rahn and Fast family reunions and helped with maintaining the family history books. Hilda loved quilting, embroidery, gardening, traveling, following sports, and listening to music. Hilda was known for her smile, her subtle jokes, and her good memory. Hilda Friesen died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake at the age of 95 years. She is survived by sons- Gilbert G. and wife Elsie Friesen of Mountain Lake, and Willard G. and wife Sharon Friesen of Mountain Lake; daughters- Delores L. and husband Arthur Ortman of Boise, ID, and Arlene H. and husband David Haury of Hilliard, OH; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers- Leo Wiebe, and LeRoy Wiebe and wife Pauline, both of Bingham Lake; sisters- Verna Rahn of Mountain Lake and Edna McLean of Seal Beach, CA; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George in 1996; son Wilbert G. Friesen; brothers Harold and Arthur; and sister Sara.
