Herbert Stub Engdahl, age 95, of St. James, died on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Stub was born and raised on a farm near Sveadahl, MN. Stub was united in marriage to Roselyn Nelson on February 27, 1939, at West Sveadahl Lutheran Church. In 1938 Stub started his own trucking business by hauling livestock to South St. Paul, MN. At the same time he also farmed by LaSalle, MN. In 1946, he moved to St. James, MN. In 1948, he purchased a D-4 Caterpillar at the Minnesota State Fair and got started in the excavating business. In 1962, Roadways Construction was formed. Stub retired in 1983. He then became an avid gardener. He loved to plant tomatoes and share them with many others. He also enjoyed planting flowers everywhere, and generously gave them to many friends and relatives. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Koronis, where he spent many weekends. And also took many trips to the Lake of the Woods. He loved being with his family, especially his grandsons and great- grandchildren. He was proud to be a member of the Masonic Lodge and the St. James Shrine Club. In 2006, he was awarded a pin and certificate for fifty year membership of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota. He was also a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and the Eagle's Club of St. James. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Westman of St. James, 2 grandsons Todd (Tammy) Westman of St. James, Scott (Molly) Westman of St. James, 3 great-grandchildren Jack, Max Julia Westman of St. James, brother Henry Engdahl, Jr. of Butterfield, and sister Florence Tande of Park Rapids. He is preceded in death by his wife, Roselyn, daughter, Janice, parents, brothers Verne Mike, Leonard, and son-in-law Robert Westman.
