Henry Kohn

Henry Frank Kohn was born November 26, 1928, in St. James, MN, the son of Henry Fred and Emma (Appel) Kohn. Hank was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he also attended grade school, and then St. James High School. Hank served in the Army from 1951 until 1953 in Korea. On December 1, 1956, he married Vernelle Sternberg at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch. The couple farmed near St. James Lake for 10 years before moving to their farm in St. James Township, just west of town. Hank was active in church, where he served in various positions on the church council. He served as chairman of St. James Township, was on the Ag Center board, and was a member of the Watonwan County Historical Society. He was a member of the St. James American Legion and VFW posts, where he served on various boards. Hank was also involved in two card clubs, volunteered at Pleasant View, delivered Meals on Wheels, and never missed lunch and activities at Senior Dining. Hank enjoyed farming, reading, hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, woodcrafting, and restoring old tractors. Hank loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, many friends, and his faithful sidekick, "Bobby." He is survived by his children, daughter, Janelle (John) Munsterman of St. James, and son, Thomas (Sue) Kohn of New Ulm; grandchildren, Erik (Meggie) Munsterman, Adam Munsterman, Danielle Munsterman, Logan Bender, and Mary Bender; great-granddaughter, Aylee Munsterman; his sister, Anna Mae King; sisters and brothers in-law, Luella Stradtman, Marjorie and Carl Vogt, and Marlys and Kent Kloepping; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Vernelle; son, Michael; parents; brother, Reuben (Ona) Kohn; sisters, Violet (Albert) Firchau, Vylla (Lester) Marsden, and Vera (George) Kriesch; and brothers-in-law, Orville King and Roland Stradtman.
