Helen (Reimer)Wiens was born December 15, 1918 to Aaron & Anna Reimer on a farm near Munich, North Dakota as the youngest of 4 children. She began her education in a school near their home and then completed grades 5-8 at a school near Delft after her parents moved to a farm there in 1930. She completed her high school education in Bingham Lake. She made a personal decision to follow Christ, was baptized on profession of her faith, and joined the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church in her late teens. She married Harold Wiens on November 21, 1941, and 2 years later they bought a farm near Delft from her parents. They farmed together until 1973 when they had to quit because of Harold's health. They moved to Mountain Lake in 1978. After quitting farming, they spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona. She enjoyed the fellowship there, along with singing in choirs, crafts, and shuffleboard. They also enjoyed stopping in Nebraska on their way to and from Arizona to spend time with their daughter Delores and husband Ivan, and their 2 sons, Royce & Doyl. After Harold passed away in 1994, Helen lived alone in her house for a number of years, and then moved into Parkwood apartments which she enjoyed very much. In 2007 she moved to The Good Samaritan Society, the Village in Mountain Lake because of her health. Music was always an important part of her life. Various hymns and gospel songs were a great comfort and encouragement to her in the tough times. Since piano lessons weren't possible when she was a child, she taught herself to read music as a young lady, using a self teach book series, and asking questions of church musicians. She sang in many mixed groups, trios, sextets, and quartets. They often sang for church functions, the Carson Men's Chorus radio program, sick people and shut-ins. She also taught herself to play her home organ and enjoyed playing it for herself and her husband in their retirement years. Through the years she was involved in many church and community activities. She wanted her life to be a service to others. She was a pleasant person, a hard worker, and looked for the best in others. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Wiens; a son at 18 months, Vernon; an infant son, Gary; an infant daughter, Marilyn; an infant brother, John and a brother, John Reimer; 2 sisters, Sarah (Reimer) Nickle, and Marie Reimer. She is survived by 1 daughter, Delores (Ivan) Flaming; 2 grandchildren, Royce (Julie) Flaming, and Doyl (Meike) Flaming and 5 great-grandchildren, Gwyneth and Violet (children of Royce and Julie), and Liana, Johan and Mattea (children of Doyl and Meike) Flaming.
