Helen Sawatzky, age 102, of Mt. Lake died on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake. Helen Quiring was born on June 8, 1908, in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, to parents Henry and Anna (Schultz) Quiring. Helen grew up and spent her entire life in the Mt. Lake area. She was united in marriage to Jacob N. Sawatzky on July 1, 1930 at Lakeview Gospel Church. She was also baptized in this church. The couple made their home and farmed near Mt. Lake. They moved to town following their retirement in 1979. Helen was an active member of Lakeview Gospel Church and sang in the church choir. Helen loved making quilts for family and friends. She also enjoyed baking and entertaining guests. She was faithful in her witness in serving others. She is survived by her sons Leroy (Louise) Sawatzky of Naples, FL, Daniel (Erica) Sawatzky of Ft. Myers, FL, son-in-law Les (Kathy) Kehn of Savage, MN, sister Esther Dick of Mt. Lake, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Jake N., daughters Norma Jean (stillborn), Ruth Kehn (2006), sisters Sara Penner, Anna Quiring, Tina Quiring, Elizabeth Clevenger, Marie Clevenger, brothers Sam Quiring and Henry Quiring.
