Helen Johnson

Helen Florence Johnson was born July 6, 1918 in Sleepy Eye, MN, the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Kuelbs) Bertrand. She was united in marriage to E.H. 'Stub' Johnson on September 30, 1941 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They moved to Springfield in 1948 where Helen worked at JC Penney's, Johnson's Federated, Kingery's, Gamble's, The Sewing Basket and Dave's Drive-In Liquor. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, St. Anne's Altar Society, CCW, St. John Lutheran HomeAuxiliary and a Ladies Card Club. Helen enjoyed playing cards, watching the Twins, collecting squirrel figurines and will be fondly remembered as the Queen of chocolate-chip cookies. Helen Johnson died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 86 years. Survivors include sons- Lance Johnson of Edina, MN, Steven and wife Liz Johnson of Two Harbors, MN, and Bradley and wife Donna Johnson of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren- Thomas and Janice Johnson of Farmington, MN, Scott and Denise Johnson of New Ulm, MN, and Kori and Darren Fluegge of Lafayette, MN; great-grandchildren- Dylan, Amber and Brody Johnson, and Tyson Fluegge; sister- Sally Fahrion of Springfield; and special friend- Hilde Callanan of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband- E.H. 'Stub' in 1997; great-granddaughter- Samantha Johnson in 2001; brother- Francis Bertrand; and sister- Arlene Hoffman.
