Helen Martha Fleischmann was born on June 29, 1908 in Burnstown Township, Brown Co, MN, the daughter of William and Lena (Nun) Fleischmann. She attended and graduated as valedictorian from Springfield High School in 1926 and was graded the American Legion Scholarship. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield and graduated with Honors and Departmental Honors in English in 1930. Helen taught at Annandale for 5 years, Winnebago for 7 years, and Anoka for 28 years; teaching English, Latin, and German in High School. She returned to Springfield in 1987. She was baptized, confirmed and was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. Helen was a member of MEA, NEA, and the American Association of University Women, Minneapolis Branch. She enjoyed reading, traveling, music, flowers, and Summer School classes at the University of Minnesota. Helen died on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Home at the age of 100 years. She is survived by cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a sister - Lillian.
