Harvey E. Schaffran was born on March 19, 1919 near Lucan, the son of William and Mary (Rindermann) Schaffran. He attended country school near Lucan and helped his father on the farm. Harvey entered the US Army on August 17, 1942 and served in Long Island New York. He was honorably discharged on February 5, 1946. He was united in marriage to Lila G. Fick on March 28, 1951 at Revere Lutheran Church. They moved to Vesta for the first two years of their marriage and back to the family farm near Revere in 1954. Harvey and Lila retired from farming in 1969 and moved into Lamberton in 1997. They were proud to have a Century Farm. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 28, 2001. He was a former member of the Revere Lutheran Church and a current member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton and a member of the Francis Harnack American Legion in Revere. Harvey enjoyed wood working and making toys for his grandchildren. He also worked at Lamberton Trailer Repair and was a Handyman in the area for years. Harvey died on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Valley View Manor Care Center in Lamberton at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his children - Bill and wife Sara Schaffran of Lamberton, Bonnie and husband Jim Shemon of Spicer, and Vonnie and husband Rodney Kussatz of Converse, TX; 9 grandchildren - Joy and husband Dan Piotrowski, Tammy and husband Ryan Bentley, Tom and wife Audrey Shemon, Shawn Kussatz, Kenny and wife Antonia Kussatz, Jesse Kussatz, Joe and wife Rachel Schaffran, Josh and fiance Abby Steffl, and Lee Schaffran; great grandchildren - Haley, Melinda, David, Luke, Brandon, Madison, and Alexandra; a sister - Irene and husband Bernell (Bud) Petermann. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife - Lila in April of 2001; an infant son; and 2 brothers.
