Harvey E. Sawatzky was born April 19, 1927, in Watonwan County, the son of Jacob and Helen (Pankratz) Sawatzky. He graduated from Comfrey High School in 1945, followed by two years of service in the U.S. Navy aboard a tanker in the Pacific. Harvey was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Kelley on May 26, 1951, at Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey. He was a partner with his father in the Sawatzky Livestock hog buying and trucking stations in Darfur and Comfrey, and operated the business in Darfur until his retirement. Harvey was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur, where he worked as a janitor for many years. He enjoyed family vacations at Lake Osakis and Nest Lake, and spending time with his family. Harvey E. Sawatzky died Friday, November 25, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester at the age of 78 years. Survivors include wife Marilyn of Darfur; son Tim and wife Nancy Sawatzky of Pennock, MN; daughter- Lisa and husband John Schumann of Darfur; granddaughter- Stacy Sawatzky and finace' Todd Julson of Pennock; grandson- Brenton Sawatzky and fiancee' Alicia Moore and their son Lance of Kerkhoven, MN; grandson- David Schumann and granddaughter- Mariah Schumann of Darfur; step-granddaughters- Emily and Samantha of Pennock; and sister- Donna and husband Roderick Wolters of Leisure World, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
