Harry Elmer Wiens, the son of John H. and Marie (Balzer) Wiens was born on May 4, 1925 in Mountain Lake, MN. He graduated from Pine River (MN) High School. Harry was baptized upon confession of his faith at Mildred Bible Chapel near Pine River. He served his country in the Navy from 1944 - 1946. Following his discharge he continued his education at Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, NE, where he met his future bride Wava Geiger. Harry and Wava were married on August 10, 1951, and they made their home in Wheaton, IL until moving to Mountain Lake to become part owner of Balzer Manufacturing. Harry participated in 24 Mission trips to Japan, Hawaii, Africa, Cuba, Russia, Siberia, Ukraine and Philippines. He actively served as a member of the Community Bible Church of Mountain Lake (formerly Mennonite Brethren Church) as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and AWANA leader, and he was also a member of Gideons. He enjoyed fishing and many trips to northern Minnesota with his family. Harry was both a fisher of fish and a fisher of men. Harry died at the age of 84 years at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom, MN on Monday, June 15, 2009. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kelsey Jo Hulzebos; a brother, Robert Wiens, and a sister, Ruth Funk. He is survived by his wife, Wava Wiens of Mountain Lake; son, Stan Lee (Jocelyn) Wiens of Fargo, ND; two daughters, Reva Jo (Dennis) Hulzebos of Mountain Lake, and Kay Sue (Peter) Eriksson of Bemidji, MN; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Wiens of Modena, Italy and James (Martha) Wiens of Battle Creek, MI; a sister, Tillie Bamrud of Ventura, CA; many other relatives and friends.
