Harriet Steege

Private graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at East Sveadahl Lutheran Cemetery in rural St. James. Harriet Lorraine Steege, 96, a 48 year resident of Tempe, Az. went to join her husband, Donald in heaven on Tuesday November24, 2020. Harriet was born May 5th, 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Ellen (Nelson) Olson. Harriet was raised in the St. James area and graduated from St James High School in 1942. On December 6th 1946 Harriet married Donald Steege at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church, the church that Harriet was baptized and confirmed in. Donald and Harriet farmed in Rosendale for 14 years before moving to Scottsdale Arizona in 1961. Donald and Harriet continued their journey to Tempe Az. in 1969. Harriet passed peacefully at her residence Scottsdale village Square. In Harriet's early years she worked at Ryan Evans Drug store and then for Super X drugstore for over 20 years as a cashier and bookkeeper until her retirement. Harriet was a member of the King of Glory Lutheran Church of Tempe, Az. where she enjoyed volunteering, money counting and putting together newsletters. Some of her hobbies included reading, baking, music, fishing and helping in the church. Harriet is preceded in death by her parents and husband Donald and one grandchild in heaven. She is survived by her son Bruce Steege and his wife Marilyn, one sister, Charlotte Sternberg, eight grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren and preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, daughters Linda and Joyce, and one grandchild in heaven.
