Harriet Ann Schmit

Harriet Ann Schmit age 88, of Springfield, MN died on July 12, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN.

Harriet was born on March 24, 1936 in Morton, MN to Henry and Myrtle Chroup. She attended Morton School district thru 12th grade. On June 23rd, 1955, Harriet married Lavern Schmit at St John’s Catholic Church in Morton, MN. The couple made their home in Springfield where Harriet was a homemaker, raising their family of 5 children until their youngest entered school. Harriet then worked at the Rainbow café in Springfield until she began her career at St John Lutheran Home where she was employed for 25 years. Harriet enjoyed baking, hosting family gatherings, playing cards with family and friends, puzzles and meeting up with her girlfriends for coffee and fellowship. Harriet was a member of St Raphael’s Catholic Church of Springfield, Catholic Council of Women and American Legion Auxiliary. She also did various other volunteer work during her retirement years.

Harriet is survived by her 5 children - Curtis (Mary) Schmit of Randolph, WI, Charles Schmit of Belview, MN, Pamela (Tom) May of Mankato, MN, Terry (Debra) Schmit, of New Ulm, MN, and Scott Schmit of Springfield, MN; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild .  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern; her parents; brother Howard; father and mother-in-law, John and Ann Schmit; and grandson-in-law, Alan Fromm.

The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, blessed be her memory.
