Harold George Carl Sternberg was born on September 27, 1923 in South Branch Township - Watonwan County, the son of Adolph and Emma (Stradtman) Sternberg. Harold was united in marriage to Joyce M. Christensen on May 14, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. James, MN. He was drafted in 1944 and served in the Philippines during WW II and Korea as a Foot Solider. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in 1946. In 1948 the couple moved to their farm place and lived there until December of 2005. He loved being outdoors, was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. James, of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the V.F.W., participated with the Men's Bible Study at church for many years, served 3 terms on the Church Council, was a member of the Dist. #63 School Board, and was an ASC committee member. Harold died on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years- Joyce Sternberg of St. James; sons - Rev. David and wife Alice Sternberg of Rhinelander, WI and John and wife Marie Sternberg of Tampa, FL; daughters - Diane and husband Larry Dannen of St. James and Marcia and husband Leo Derkowski of Valatie, NY; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister - Florence and husband Ervin Bong of Bloomington, MN; and a sister-in-law - Charlotte Sternberg of St. James. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother - Raymond Sternberg.
