Harold Fischer

September 1, 1938 — April 13, 2006

He was born on September 1, 1938, in Sleepy Eye to Alfred A. Fritz and Rose (Rothmeier) Fischer. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye in 1955, and married Mickey Windschitl on June 14, 1960, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Harold worked his entire life farming in Albin Township except when he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also worked at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye. Harold was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served as usher. He was a member of American Legion Post #7 serving as past Commander and he was the current Second Vice Commander of American Legion District #2. He was past Commander and a current Trustee of the Brown County Veterans Council. He was a member of VFW Post #800 in Sleepy Eye. He served in the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. He was a member of the Sleepy Eye Sportsman Club and Toastmasters and the Polka Angels. He was previously a member of the Brown County Holstein Association, a 4-H Adult Leader and coached girls' softball at Stark Township. He enjoyed being outdoors, fixing tractors, hunting, playing cards and especially watching his grandsons play baseball. Harold is survived by his children, Steve (Elaine) Fischer of Sleepy Eye, Lisa Fischer of Plymouth, Martha (Chad) Witte of Eagle Lake, Anna Geiger of New Ulm, Andrew (Christine) Fischer of Madison Lake; and grandchildren, Keith, Craig, Joseph, Jacob, Savanna, Anthony, Ellen, Julia and Addison. He was preceded in death by his parents.
