Harold Davis

Harold 'Tubby' Max Davis was born September 6, 1920, in Stately Township, Brown County, the son of Wesley and Hilda (Simmons) Davis. He was united in marriage to Grace Thompson on November 16, 1941, in Las Vegas, NV. The couple lived in California and Houston, MN before moving to Springfield in August of 1945. Tubby enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Force on April 6, 1943, and served until October 30, 1945. During his time in the service, he served with the 680th Bombardment Squadron and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Tubby worked for years as a contractor and designed and built many houses and businesses in the Springfield area. He was a member of the Springfield UMC and John Watson American Legion Post #257 for 62 years. Tubby was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, playing the organ, flying his plane, and talking about his war stories. Harold Max Davis died Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Springfield Medical Center Hospital at the age of 88 years. He is survived by sons- Dr. Paul and Nancy Davis of Palm Desert, CA, John Davis and Omelia Odegaard of Sanborn, MN, and Mark and Pat Davis of Las Vegas, NV; daughter- Virginia 'Ginny' Witte of Lewisville, TX; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister- Lois Hedlund of Elk River, MN; and special friends- Ken and Shari Koll, and Emma Rogotzke of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Grace in 2003.
