Harley Jay Siem

Harley Siem passed away Sunday, October 1,2023 at Living Meadows Luther Home in Madelia at the age of 94.

A memorial service will be held at Sturm Funeral Home St James Chapel, on Saturday, November 11,2023 at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in St.  James.

Harley Jay Siem was born on January 8, 1929, one of ten children, to Emil and Hazel (Kahler) Siem in Long Lake Township, MN. He was raised in rural St. James attending country school and then graduating from St. James High School. On September 21, 1947, Harley was united in marriage to Delores Lange and together had four children, Randy, Larry, Dean and Diane.

Harley spent his entire life farming and caring for livestock. He was also a very good carpenter and had a special creative skill working with wood. Over the years he did a lot of building projects for family and others and made numerous decorative items and toys from wood for his family. When he retired from farming you could always find him in his shop creating something new to share. Harley loved to fish, watch sports, play bean bags and games with the family, was an avid reader, and loved to watch westerns. Most of all he loved playing cards and visiting with his family.

Harley is survived by his children, Randy (Eileen) Siem of Richmond, Larry (Lois) Siem and Diane Isaacson of St. James; daughter-in-law, Sue Siem of Mapleton; grandchildren, Sherry Siem, Shelly (Jeff) Moliter, Lane (Lona) Siem, Les (Amanda) Siem, Landon Siem and Shannon (Andy) Johnson; 11 great grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters; sisters-in-laws; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harley was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; son, Dean; daughter-in-law, Linda Siem; son-in-law, James “Ike” Isaacson; his parents; three brothers; father and mother-in-law; brothers-in-law; and sister-in-Law.
