Harlan Joe Halter was born July 28, 1932, to Joseph and Verona (Grieger) Halter on the family farm in Highwater Township near Lamberton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Sharon Lutheran Church. After receiving his education at District #28 country school in Cottonwood County, Harlan started farming. He farmed all his life other than the 2 years he served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 in Korea. On October 19, 1957, Harlan was united in marriage to Yvonne Lind at the Tracy United Methodist Church by Rev. Edward Lee. They have lived on the family farm since 1958. Harlan also sold Northrup King Seed Corn. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. He has been a member of the American Legion Andrew Peterson Post #41 for over 60 years. Harlan enjoyed his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, visiting, fishing and farming.
Harlan died on November 19, 2023, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 91.
He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne; children - Julie (Gene) McClellan, Steven (Valerie) Halter, Robert (Kari) Halter, and Thomas (Cathy) Halter; grandchildren - David, Katelynn and Samuel, Angela, Allison and Abby, Stephanie and Brianna; great grandchildren - Bailey, Lauren and Jack, Brynlee and Brantley, Emilee, Oaklee and Lawson, Brekken, Brenner and Breyten, Kynslee and Traycten, David and Madisyn. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margie Krause, grandson, Daniel McClellan; brother-in-law, Wallace Krause; and sister-in-law, Joanne Grabin.
