Grace Augusta Strenge

Grace Strenge, age 91, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be 10:30am, Friday, December 2, 2022, at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Mandy France officiating.

Burial will follow at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Bergen, MN.

Visitation will be at the church on Friday beginning at 9:00am until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to Watonwan County Food Shelf or mission quilting.

Grace Augusta (Thompson) Strenge was born October 15, 1931, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Dingman) Thompson. Grace was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church near Bergen, MN. She attended school in Windom where she graduated. She met Lawrence at the Cottonwood County Fair, and they were united in marriage in 1950 at Bethany Lutheran Church. Grace was an active church member throughout her life, as she enjoyed quilt making for missions, WELCA and baking. After attending beauty school in Fairmont, MN, she opened her own beauty shop in Odin, MN. When she closed her beauty shop, she worked as a home health aide. Grace enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She and Lawrence spent many hours playing cards and dice with grandchildren. Grace always had fried chicken, cookies, special “K” bars and cinnamon rolls on hand for all who visited. She was loved and adored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Grace is survived by her children, Larry (Elizabeth) Strenge of Sartell, MN, Diane Fast of Butterfield, MN, Mike (Deanna) Strenge of Sioux Falls, SD, and Timothy (Stephanie) Strenge of Fulda, MN; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, brothers, Richard (Betty) Thompson of Minnetonka, MN, and Roger Thompson of Pipestone, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter Linda Marie; son-in-law LaRoy Fast; grandson, Daniel Strenge; sisters Ardell, Ardyth, Shirley; brothers Robert and Walter Jr.
